There Must Be Accountability for U.S. Drone Strikes

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, heralded as the leading authority for drone-strike casualty numbers by the recent report entitled Living Under Drones by Stanford and NYU researchers, reports 178 children have died in Yemen and Pakistan as a result of U.S. drone strikes. War Costs has produced a video and report on the topic.

Please consider joining us in our appeal to leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives to reintroduce H. Res. 819,  which calls for more accountability and transparency for U.S. Drone policy.

Speaker Boehner and Minority Leader Pelosi,

H. Res. 819 calls for the release of the legal justification of U.S. drone strikes that have killed civilians in targeted areas, as numerous reports have detailed.

Please reintroduce this bill to the House floor this month, as too much of U.S. government's drone policy is kept secret from Congress and the American people.

We must not drones continue to make more enemies. We need to apologize for the collateral damage to families. It doesn’t make sense in this 21st century to wait for 150 years -as we have done for our past misdeeds-for our future generations to do so. We need friends now in the Niddle East and elsewhere.

This is an abomination! It MUST stop! Where is the empathy for children and families? Imagine what we would feel — more importantly — what we would do if one of these drones hit the U.S. We hear talk of American deaths needing to be avenged; well……. obviously, they feel the same. PLEASE STOP ALL DRONES NOW. Nothing is worth the deaths of innocents!!!!

the use of drones may appear advantageous, since American lives are saved… but it puts us out of touch with reality, makes us callous toward the lives of innocent victims of our cowardice.

My country is committing terrorist acts; account for the killing of children.

I don’t believe that the US shouldn’t use drones but I do think that the government should be held more accountable for the deaths of the children and that it should be more honest about the usage of drones, i.e. that there is obviously some level of inaccuracy with drones or that someone is making poor decisions.
