There Must Be Accountability for U.S. Drone Strikes

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, heralded as the leading authority for drone-strike casualty numbers by the recent report entitled Living Under Drones by Stanford and NYU researchers, reports 178 children have died in Yemen and Pakistan as a result of U.S. drone strikes. War Costs has produced a video and report on the topic.

Please consider joining us in our appeal to leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives to reintroduce H. Res. 819,  which calls for more accountability and transparency for U.S. Drone policy.

Speaker Boehner and Minority Leader Pelosi,

H. Res. 819 calls for the release of the legal justification of U.S. drone strikes that have killed civilians in targeted areas, as numerous reports have detailed.

Please reintroduce this bill to the House floor this month, as too much of U.S. government's drone policy is kept secret from Congress and the American people.

This is simply wrong. My children didn’t believe that this could be possible living in a Democracy, and we’re horrified to discover that it is indeed true.

It is time to stop the killing…especially of children. This will hurt America in the long run. It will not make America safe. It is unconsciounable. It is immoral and illegal. It is senseless!!!

    What goes around comes around.

    Dresden never ended.

I am a senior and German citizen. I will never forget.

All American presidents in my life time are, or had been, war criminals. Are you surprised, President Obama, that I have not become an American, although I lived 24 years in this country?

I mourn the Connecticut children but who among us mourns the Middle East children? I voted for the President twice but I do not agree on all of his policies. This is one of them. Stop! The! Drones! Now!

Our leaders set examples whether they mean to or not. Must that example be violence and death?

I’ve always wondered about the meaning of “American Exceptionalism.” Sadly, I now understand it as a phrase describing a nation which celebrates the freedom to export the indiscriminate killing of children and other innocents to the far-flung corners of the globe. We should at least have the decency to accept responsibility for our actions. I support H. Res. 819.

Join the international effort to expose the financial & humane costs of the U.S. military industrial complex.
