There Must Be Accountability for U.S. Drone Strikes

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, heralded as the leading authority for drone-strike casualty numbers by the recent report entitled Living Under Drones by Stanford and NYU researchers, reports 178 children have died in Yemen and Pakistan as a result of U.S. drone strikes. War Costs has produced a video and report on the topic.

Please consider joining us in our appeal to leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives to reintroduce H. Res. 819,  which calls for more accountability and transparency for U.S. Drone policy.

Speaker Boehner and Minority Leader Pelosi,

H. Res. 819 calls for the release of the legal justification of U.S. drone strikes that have killed civilians in targeted areas, as numerous reports have detailed.

Please reintroduce this bill to the House floor this month, as too much of U.S. government's drone policy is kept secret from Congress and the American people.

Stop killing children! Stop killing people! Stop destroying our planet! Who is safer from these policies? Ban drones. End the destruction!

If drone strikes do not qualify as outright gratuitous violence, they most certainly are the next thing to it.

For those who think we are killing terrorists look at the facts of Gitmo. Over 600 of the 775 prisoners have been released because they were not terrorists, and over 150 more have never been charged. Under current targeted killing policy, they would all be dead as “suspected” terrorists. We are the only country in the World that supports targeted killing by drone and we will ultimately pay the price by blowback for this immoral, illegal and indefensible policy. For all who continue to buy the Government’s propaganda we are only killing terrorists, ask yourself why the the Government refuses to provide us with any transparency concerning the programs that has killed over 3,000 people outside of traditional war zones.

It’s not just killing children, it is murder without habeas corpus even when it

    is adults.

    Execrable.

Ground these drones once and for all. There is no way to justify this kind of barbarism. We are fed up with all this “war on terror”, we are sickened by it, and ashamed that you are murdering innocent women, children, and elderly in our name. Your counterterrorism, counterinsurgency policies are destroying these people’s lives, their heritage, their culture, and you are making us all unsafe. Stop the insanity now!!

We should NOT use drones at all in populated areas, especially where children reside. We must DO the right things in order to expose the Taliban, search them out physically; we cannot depend on the drones to be expert in targets when they are not reliable. This is a death sentence for our youngsters, who are NOT our enemy.

Cowardly and inexcusable. Both the drones and our very presence is someone else’ home (with guns drawn).
