There Must Be Accountability for U.S. Drone Strikes

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, heralded as the leading authority for drone-strike casualty numbers by the recent report entitled Living Under Drones by Stanford and NYU researchers, reports 178 children have died in Yemen and Pakistan as a result of U.S. drone strikes. War Costs has produced a video and report on the topic.

Please consider joining us in our appeal to leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives to reintroduce H. Res. 819,  which calls for more accountability and transparency for U.S. Drone policy.

Speaker Boehner and Minority Leader Pelosi,

H. Res. 819 calls for the release of the legal justification of U.S. drone strikes that have killed civilians in targeted areas, as numerous reports have detailed.

Please reintroduce this bill to the House floor this month, as too much of U.S. government's drone policy is kept secret from Congress and the American people.

The drone strikes must stop. If my government whats to attack a camp of armed adults who are actively attacking US or allied forces, that is a horse of a different color and within the lawful rules of war. However, when targeting a single individual in a populated area results in the killing of innocent bystanders, be it 7, 13, 20 or more it is completely unacceptable and must stop!

Mr. President, with all due respect, without due process as guaranteed by the Constitution your signature on a piece of paper means nothing. You are not GOD, you are merely a mortal man like all the rest of humanity and I urge you to think long and hard on the legacy historians will attribute to your two terms as POTUS.

If we must conduct unmanned air strikes, we must be willing to accept the consequences and accept the reprisals that come as a result of the discriminant killing of children and non-combatant men and women.

How can we talk of American exceptionalism and cry over three dead people in Boston but then be so proud of our drone usage? Is this sustainable in fighting terrorism? 178 children is ENOUGH! Their lives are not worth any less because they are not Americans.

I am so tired of seeing and hearing about a corrupt American government murdering the people of foreign lands. America is on a backward slide, and one day we will no longer be the top dog. Will other nations treat us as we have them?
