Pentagon Admits U.S./Afghan Night Raid Deal Is a Joke

The U.S. is publicly describing the deal with the Karzai administration on night raids as a big deal, but Pentagon spokespeople are crystal clear that the deal doesn’t give any new recognition to the right of Afghans to control their own affairs.

“This is not about [giving Afghan officials] a veto at all,” [Pentagon spokesman Capt. John Kirby] said.
