There Must Be Accountability for U.S. Drone Strikes

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, heralded as the leading authority for drone-strike casualty numbers by the recent report entitled Living Under Drones by Stanford and NYU researchers, reports 178 children have died in Yemen and Pakistan as a result of U.S. drone strikes. War Costs has produced a video and report on the topic.

Please consider joining us in our appeal to leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives to reintroduce H. Res. 819,  which calls for more accountability and transparency for U.S. Drone policy.

Speaker Boehner and Minority Leader Pelosi,

H. Res. 819 calls for the release of the legal justification of U.S. drone strikes that have killed civilians in targeted areas, as numerous reports have detailed.

Please reintroduce this bill to the House floor this month, as too much of U.S. government's drone policy is kept secret from Congress and the American people.

The United States use of drones and our continued aggression in the Middle East is immoral and truly distasteful and should be stopped immediately. I do not support the United States position as war mongers for profit and pushers of democracy. What ever happened to giving peace a chance. This is a truly sad state of affairs and to see only 34 signatures so far is even more tragic.

For every individual who signs, they say there are a thousand who agree but just have not found a way to say it publicly. Consider my name as one thousand.

These deaths of innocents, are absolutely unacceptable! To imagine that they are, signals an ever-growing disregard for human life and gives militaristic forces the power of “God.” The U.S. Government does NOT have such rights! There is NO WAY this can have a good ending. Whether it is a nuclear attack on U.S. citizens [fabricated a la 9/11] to proceed with U.S. military objectives, or targeted assasinations of perceived enemies…we are treading down a very dark and dangerous path which is eating away the ‘soul’ of this Nation.

What will we see next to inflame the U.S. populace to embrace [and willingly fund] these War-goals? Will it be a ’ false flag’ strike on the White House, or Government buildings, as when the Nazis burned the Reichstag down and blamed the Communists? Are we on the road to totalitarian rule? Many would say we are. The proof mounts daily, in spite of massive dis-information tactics used via the Internet and the news media. This must end.

The US decries terrorism, yet through drone attacks, it justifies the use of terrorism for its own ends. Disgraceful. Using drones is the kind of behavior that leads to anti-US sentiment in the first place.

These drone strikes are simply disgraceful and immoral. They do nothing to enhance US security, and in fact create more potential for terrorist acts against the US. There must be accountability!
